Powder-Puff Football Game
by Cody Pearce
October 08, 2009
The game last Friday was the Wildcats
against the…Lady Wildcats?? That is, the 2nd annual WCHS
powder-puff football game.
The game started at 4:00 PM. It was played
using flags, not tackling, and they played on the Sharon Springs
football field. There were two teams: the Black team, coached by
Larry O’Connor; and the Blue team, coached by Virgil Fischer. There
were ten girls playing on each team.
Said Coach O’Connor of his team’s chances,
“It’s going to be power vs. speed, and power always wins. Tell them
to get ready, ‘cause I’m releasing the rattlesnake.”
Taylor Weinland of the Blue team said, “Our speed is just too much.
We’ll dominate.”
“It’s going to be a circus,” said Coach
Fischer.
Both teams had been preparing all week for
the game. The teams played four eight-minute quarters, and at the
end of regulation, neither team had scored a touchdown. Kenzi
Knobbe was nearing the goal line as the clock ran out of time, but
to no avail; she was pushed out of bounds by a Blue defender to end
the game in a 0-0 tie.
Congratulations to all participants and
good luck next year.
