Grandma Shirley

Do you remember your 1st grade year, and how it was a little bit scary at first? Well once you walked into the class room for the first time there was a big smile to greet you, and all your worries went away. At Sharon Springs Elementary, we have had the pleasure of having “Grandma Shirley”. Shirley Sharp has been volunteering at the school for 11 years.
Before she came to Sharon Springs, she lived in Oakley and worked as a teacher’s aid for Kindergarten. She even aided for my dad, John Kuhlman, 38 years ago.
When I asked Grandma how she got involved, she said that she took her grandchildren to school one day. Grandma Shirley asked Mrs. Sangster if she needed someone to read with the children or help the kids on homework.
She refers the kids to “all my little children”. Grandma Shirley goes anywhere and does everything with her “little children”. She walks them from class to class and helps with lectures; she even grades papers every now and then. She is a jack of all trades.
We love Grandma Shirley. Sometimes we take her for granted. We shouldn’t because she has been there since the beginning, and she has helped us become the people that we are today. So we would like to say thanks for the help and that we love you, Grandma.
