November 29, 2011

It takes a long time for scholars bowl season to begin, but once it begins it is fast and furious.

With nearly all of the members returning from a second place finish at the state tournament last year, the WCHS Scholars Bowl team went undefeated in their first meet at Golden Plains, November 7.

The team defeated Hill City, Rawlins County, Weskan, Cheylin, Wheatland-Grinnell, Rexford, Brewster, and Triplains. With the team going undefeated they brought home first place to start the season off right.

On Monday, November 14, the team competed at Goodland and took third place even though they only had one loss.

Tuesday, November 15, they were on the road again and faced teams at Leoti.  They were undefeated until their last match against Scott City, putting the Wildcats in 2nd place by two questions.

There was one more competition at Wheatland/Grinnell before the team finally received a well-deserved break for Thanksgiving. At Wheatland both JV and Varsity placed third.

Tribune hosted a Varsity meet on November 29. They got second going undefeated in their pool and losing to Scott City by five points in the finals.

Senior Miranda Mai said, “It has been fun to see our team interact and compete this year because we know each other’s strengths and weaknesses. So this will be a fun year.”

The Varsity and JV teams have placed in the top three at every meet they have attended. This is great preparation for a return to state!

Team Members are Catherine Jenkinson, Senior; Jayne Klinge, Senior; Cody Pearce, Senior; Miranda Mai, Senior; Grace Hammer, Junior; Darby Magwire, Junior; Dalton Walker, Sophomore;Clay Schemm, Sophomore; and Chanity Daily, Freshman.  The Scholars Bowl Team is coached by Jacalyn Mai.
