Seekers-Peer Helpers

Fundraisers for September

by Inga Sloan

October 06, 2011

The Seekers-Peer Helpers, a high school organization, try to promote community service here in Wallace County and a metropolitan community. It takes two years of fundraising for this group of students to travel to work with the organization called Youth With a Mission. Students belonging to Seekers also spend time in the classroom with younger students promoting reading and assisting with homework. Members include Hayley Pletcher, Grace Hammer, Catherine Jenkinson, Morganne Baehler, Miranda Mai, Zach McNall, Zane Sloan, Hallie Kuhlman, Jenna Kriegh, and Cody Pearce. Miss Tricia North is their sponsor.

For one fundraiser each member had to sell 12 dozen ham and cheese pockets, but they ended up making 183 dozen, 2,200. To make them they needed 75 pounds cheddar jack cheese, 275 pounds ham, 12 dozen eggs, 175 pounds flour, and 25 pounds sugar. Virginia Renner the "Head Baker" shared her Bieroch dough recipe.

Seekers sponsored a fund drive for the Wallace County Foundation and the Seekers' mission trip to Jacksonville, Florida. This is the second year, Seekers have sponsored a penny drive among all classes, K-12. Last year's recipient, Pennies for Patients, received funds for Leukemia.
