Dane G. Hansen died in 1965 when he was 82. He left the majority of his fortune amassed in numerous industries, including ranching, earth-moving, and oil development. When his trustees authorized a "Hansen Scholarship Program", it was generally because of his concern for people, especially young people. Among his foundation's other charitable interests is the Dane G. Hansen Boy Scout Camp (Kirwin, KS).
The Dane G. Hansen Scholarship was this year awarded to Taylor Pearce. He received the award after completing several steps, including the grueling test, interviewing process, and submitting a resume. In his own words, the test was "perhaps the most difficult and longest test he has ever taken". Says Pearce, "It was worth the effort to complete the process, no matter the difficulty."
