What is WCHS forensics all about? Well, it's not about the investigating crimes!
For months, the small speech and drama team spent several hours a week acting, speaking, and screaming their hearts out. This years team, coached by Mrs. Lynn Kasten, consisted of three members:
Morganne Baehler, sophomore, joined the team this year and participated in reading of prose and informative speech. Mackenzie Cunningham, junior, also joined the team this year performing a serious solo and poetry. Brett Bussen, sophomore and team captain, took part in his second year of forensics and performed both a humorous solo and serious solo.
The team was extremely busy this season traveling all across western Kansas. Between all of them they had over 180 performances! They performed their hearts out until all qualified for State Competition.
On May 1st the team traveled to Salina, KS where Cunningham performed at Kansas State Speech and Drama Festivaland Baehler and Bussen performed at Kansas State Speech and Drama Championship. Here were the final State results:
Cunningham - Rating I for performance of her serious solo, "We Were Just Kids"
Baehler - Preliminary Rounds in her prose, "They Cage the Animals at Night"
Bussen - Semi - Finalist (Top 12) in his humorous solo, "Mr. Whiskers"
Team Captain, Brett Bussen, shared his excitement, "I'm extremely proud of our team, everyone was extremely dedicated and spent countless hours perfecting their pieces. We gained so much experience and learned some valuable lessons! I can't wait till next year!"
