High School

Door Decorating Contest

by Grace Hammer

October 13, 2009

Wildcat, Wildcat what do you see? I see the halls and decorated doors of WCHS looking at me! Door decorating is an event that has evolved over the years in the celebration of homecoming. People haven’t always decorated doors in the homecoming celebration. Students show their school spirit by decorating doors during Activity Period, before, and after school.

This year the theme of doors was books. Students in the high school came up with various ideas ranging from Nicholas Sparks to Dr. Suess and included themes like “Feed Those Coyotes the Grapes of Wrath,” “The Wildcats Will Win Inch by Inch,” “Green Eggs and Coyotes,” “The Very Hungry Wildcat,” “Call of the Wildcat,” “A Walk to Remember,” and many more. Each class decorated from two to three doors, and they were judged on Thursday. Taking first in door decorating was the Seniors, and second went to the Juniors. Freshman received third, while Sophomores received fourth. First place winners in all contests received a extended lunch period.

“I loved door decorating. I had a great time with my classmates,” says Catherine Jenkinson. Door decorating is a great event that helps students show school spirit and make many memories.
