High School

History of Football and Homecoming

by Gage Henderson

October 09, 2009

Homecoming is a traditional celebration for high school students and the two most recent classes of graduates are invited to return home to their alma mater.  During this time each high school class has various responsibilities  for spirit week activities.

A king and queen of the school will be elected.  The king receives a medallion and crown.  A sash, bouquet, and crown are given to the queen.  After coronation, the king and queen share a celebratory kiss.

At the end of the week, there is a dance after the football game. There are usually snacks during the dance and you can get out there and party your heart out!  Students are required to wear semi formal dress for the dance.

It’s good that we have these fun activities during the week before a game so that  players can relax and have fun before the game.  Homecoming is a good time and this reporter advises you to try it and participate.
