Lady Cats Finish Regular Season Strong

These last few weeks the Wildcats knew they would need to finish
the regular season with a strong effort to place them in a good
position for the Regional tournament. They have done precisely that
and are on a nine game winning streak as they head into their
Regional game against Greeley County on Thursday.
Everyone on the team understands how important those wins in the
final weeks have been.
“It will help us get a better position in Regionals and it will
also prepare us for the tougher teams we are going to face in the
upcoming weeks,” freshman Hallie Kuhlman said.
Syracuse and Oakley faced the Cats last week and again Sharon
Springs overwhelmed their opponents for two solid wins.
Tuesday a strong third quarter pushed the Cats ahead of the
Bulldogs and on to a 54-42 win. Not only did the Cats outscore
their opponent during that quarter, but once again a suffocating
defense held Syracuse to only four points in the same quarter.
Friday the Cats faced an Oakley team with a much different look
from the past two years. With a team made up primarily of
underclassmen, the Plainsmen didn’t have the fire power to keep
pace with the Wildcats and fell 59-50. That doesn’t mean Oakley
didn’t put up a fight and the Cats had to fight off an 18 point
scoring effort by them in the fourth quarter. Thankfully, the gap
created by Sharon Springs in the first three quarters was just too
much for the Plainsmen to overcome.
Against the Bulldogs, junior Kenzi Knobbe led the Wildcats with 18
points, Hallie Kuhlman had 11 points, junior Audrey Mote scored
eight points, senior Lauren Elder added six, and freshman Hayley
Pletcher had five points. Senior Caitlin Elder, junior Gabrielle
Kuhlman, and Taylor Weinland each had two points.
Knobbe led the Cats again Friday with 16 points, Mote followed
closely with 13 points, Hallie Kuhlman had 12 points, senior Audra
Kuhlman scored six points, Pletcher had five points and Lauren
Elder and Gabrielle Kuhlman each had two points.
Monday evening the Cats started their post-season play against the
Cheylin Cougars. The Wildcats overcame shooting woes in the first
half to win 99-51. All season the team has been working to reach
the 100 point mark in a game and came up just shy in the final
minutes. Mote led the team with 18 points and Caitlin Elder had a
great shooting night scoring 15 points along with Knobbe. Hallie
Kuhlman had 12 points, and Lauren Elder had eight points. Breanna
Sharp, Gabrielle Kuhlman, Weinland and Van Laeys each had six
points. Pletcher had five points and Audra Kuhlman rounded out the
scoring with two points.
There will be a pep rally at 11:45 a.m. at the high school on
Thursday to cheer on both teams as they face their opponents on
Thursday and Friday.
