The hills of Wallace County are alive with the "sound of music." On April 23, 2010 at ten a.m., nine vocal students and sponsors, Mrs. Jenkins, Mrs. Pearce, and Cecil Pearce, headed to Wichita, KS for the state music festival.
In order to qualify for state music, participants must receive a one rating at regional music. One is the highest honor. Vocal soloists, Brett Bussen, Jayne Klinge, Cody Pearce, and Taylor Pearce all received "ones." Flute soloist, Jayne Klinge also received a one. The boys' ensemble received a one. Wallace County High School took a Girls' Glee ensemble and a Small Group ensemble. The two groups received twos in a tough performance room.
At state music, on Saturday April 24, 2010, all state qualifiers performed. Brett Bussen received a two on his vocal solo. Jayne Klinge was rated twos on both her flute and vocal solo. Taylor and Cody Pearce both had outstanding performances, and each brought home ones and a state medal. Taylor said, "It was a blast. I am glad we were successful, but it is sad that it is my last year because I'll really miss going to state music!"
The boys' ensemble received state medals and a one rating. Vocal teacher, Jayne Pearce said, "Everyone performed wonderfully! We have to accept what the judges rate us, but in my opinion, everyone was well deserving of ones!"
This state music contest will always be memorable to the 2010 Wallace County Classic Cats as this was the first year in twenty five years that Cathy Siebert was not able to accompany vocal students. Mrs. Pearce conjointly added, " Mei Hayasaka and Mrs. Staker played beautifully to help out because this was the first year Cathy was not able to be with us."
Cathy's spirit and legacy will always be with us! Thank you Classic Cats to the wonderful performances and representation of Wallace County High School!
