The Pete Henry Scholarship was created by Pete Henry, a farmer from Brewster, KS. Born in 1910, he was raised on a farm in Campbell, Nebraska. After several endeavors throughout the country, he eventually rented the ground he currently owns south of Brewster.
His dream to "assist local students to further their education" was realized when he established a foundation to award "academic and technical training scholarships". His scholarship is awarded to "self-starting, determined individuals with leadership and work experience from Cheyenne, Decatur, Gove, Logan, Rawlins, Sheridan, Sherman, Thomas or Wallace Counties".
The student must fill out several aspects of their life on an application, such as school and non-school activities, awards, recognitions, leadership, Grade Point Average (GPA) for seven semesters, work experience, and a short essay to explain why this scholarship would benefit the individual, including the individual's financial needs and career and educational goals.
This year, Doyle Pletcher, Kenzi Knobbe, Gabrielle Kuhlman, and Kelley Van Laeys were the recipient of a Pete Henry Foundation Scholarship.
