This year, senior Kenzi Knobbe gets a little bit more money for her college education.
The KMF has provided an opportunity for ambitious kids with a knack for words to obtain a scholarship from the Kansas Masonic Foundation. The competition for the scholarship was in the form of an essay. These essays will be judged for originality and development of topic.
The scholarship varies from $200-$1000 based on locality, of which Wallace County's lone scholarship was $200. This money may be used at any one of the six state universities or colleges in Kansas, or at an accredited tax-supported Junior college or Vo-Tech in the state.
The KMF is a non-profit organization, "established for the purpose of expanding Mason Philanthropy in the fields of charitable, educational, and scientific programs". (http://www.kmfonline.org/content/view/34/25/). They are involved with many charitable endeavours, and are totally funded by donations from Masons, their friends, and families. The Masons have recently been involved in the Kansas University Cancer Research Center working with Governor Mark Parkinson to help fund research for cancer.
