Classic Cats are back!

by Brett Bussen

October 10, 2009

The Classic Cats are back! This year only 13 students of WCHS signed up for the vocal program, a dramatic drop from last year’s enrollment. These small numbers open up new opportunities for the small vocal group. Jayne Pearce, the vocal director at WCHS, decided to transform the small choir back into a flashy show choir. The students seemed a little unsure at first, but talk of flashy costumes and choreographed dances got students excited.

Catherine Jenkinson, a member of the Classic Cats said “I’m really excited to be a part of this program! We’ve been working extremely hard to raise money to purchase our outfits.”

Classic Cats have had several fundraisers through homecoming week, with much success!  On September 28 the Classic Cats sold 100 dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts to local students and fans. The fresh doughnuts came all the way from Denver, Colorado and were sold within the first two hours of there arrival at WCHS.

On Thursday, October 1st the Classic Cats had great success with a dessert auction at the homecoming pep-rally and coronation and a cake raffle at the football game the next day. Jayne Pearce describe the fundraising success, “I was really overwhelmed by the support of our community! We raised enough money to completely pay for the costumes with some left over to pay for shoes.”

Classic Cats are working hard on many new music numbers and will make there debut at this years WCHS Christmas Concert.
