Track Gets Underway

On Thursday the Wildcat track team made
the journey to Wray, Colo., to compete in their first track meet of
the year. Overall the boys and girls did very well with the boys
placing first and the girls placing fourth.
The boys had many top place finishes. In
the 100 meter dash Holden Mai took second with a time of 11.6
followed by Taylor Elder in third (11.7) and Brock Williams in
fourth (11.75). In the 200 meter dash Mai took first with a time of
23.5 and Williams placed fourth ( 25.4). Ty Bieker took second in
the 300 hurdles in a time of 43.5. In the 400 meter dash Taylor
Pearce placed first with a 56.2, Austin Buell took third in 58.4
and Tadd Andrews took fifth with a 1:03. In the 800 meter run Brett
Keller placed fifth with a time of 2:33, and in the 3200 meter run
Dallas Buell took first with a time of 12:13. In the relays the
4x800, 4x100, and 4x400 relay all took first place.
In the field events Hennick won high jump
with a jump of 5’6” and Dallas Buell placed third clearing 5’0”. In
discus Keller placed third with a throw of 108’1 ½” and Mitch
Harrison placed fourth (104’0”) while Bailey Kemp also placed sixth
(103’4”). Elder won the long-jump with a jump of 20’2” and Mai won
the triple-jump with 39’3”. Harrison also took second in the
shot-put and threw for a personal best of 42’1”.
“I was pretty impressed with my first
outing and hope to keep improving throughout the year and possibly
get a chance to go to State,” Harrison said.
Despite the low number of girls going out for track they did well
for the day. Lauren Elder placed third in the 100 meter dash with a
time of 14.5, and Arely Navarett took fourth in the 200 meter dash
in a time of 30.9. Essie Hill took fourth in the 800 with a time of
2:55.9. In the 1600 meter run Navarette placed second in 6:53.2,
Nicole Boucher placed third (7:43.8) and Caimen Bussen placed
fourth (7:56.2). Boucher also came in second in the 3200 meter run
with a time of 16:16.9. The girls’ 4x100 meter relay came in fourth
with a 58.9 and their 4x800 meter relay came in first with a
12:42.3.
In the girls’ field events Elder and
Chricket Short came in third and fourth in long jump. Short also
came in second in high-jump with a jump of 4’8”.
Coach Fischer said, “We came in with times and placings a lot
better than were expected and we had some very good times for the
first time out. We have the ability to do very well this track
season.”
